The point of interest was why we still need older operating systems such as Windows 98 Second Edition in the classroom. These older operating systems provide more security in the sense that they cannot easily be accessed remotely and controlled that way. In addition, they have fewer services that could be hacked. Also, Windows 98 Second Edition can play many older Windows 3.x and DOS programs that Windows XP cannot since they are two different lines of source code. Windows 98 S.E. is a consumer line based originally on DOS. Windows XP is a business line that starts it roots back with Windows N.T. (New Technology) This is sort of the general idea about why older operating systems are still needed in the classrooms of APS.
